What materials are needed to build a model of a fitness center?

I'm doing a project for my health class, and im wondering what materials would be needed to make an effective model. We're thinking about making a birds eye view of the fitness center with the roof off so you can see the whole floorplan. This model is only one story, to make things more simple.
